Dynamic stretching for strength
Not so long ago, stretching was just a thing you did when you were ready for bed or getting up in the morning!
Playing team sport in the 90s in Australia meant spend 45 mins warm up and static stretching before matches.
Weights for sport has been big over the past 20 years, especially in collision sports like rugby but also for other sports like GAA and soccer, even golf. Whereas stretching and flexibility has not improved that much. GAA in particular needs to up its game.
Which leads me to the question. Big, Strong, Fit? Is that where you want your players to be? Time was I would have said, ‘certainly!’
Or would you prefer Dynamic, Strong, Skilful?
I know which direction I would prefer.
Your dynamism comes from your Dynamic flexibility.
Your strength comes from your Dynamic Exercise.
Your Skill comes from the fact that you are in control of a body that can turn and stretch in the directions that would have been stuck fast from being too stiff and strong .
